This short course includes:

bulletan introduction to the quality control aspects of feed microscopy;
bulletstructural characteristics of commodities, ingredients and their common adulterants and contaminants;
bulletcereal, legume, and oilseed by-products;
bulletanimal and marine by-products;
bulletsample processing and handling;
bulletmineral, vitamin and feed additive identifications;

bulletproblem solving techniques for feed quality; and
bulletmethods for the evaluation of pelleted and extruded feeds and the new co-extruded or co-mingled ingredients.

This is a complete course with extra emphasis on the identification of rendered by-products.  Students will be at an advanced-intermediate level upon completion.

This course is particularly valuable for anyone concerned with feed quality and meeting FDA specifications for BSE-free products.

Feed microscopy is the subjective half of the quality assurance picture.  It is the fastest and most practical way to identify contaminants and adulterants in ingredients and finished feedsNo scientific instrument can take the place of a well trained microscopist.  This "hands on" short course will provide a wealth of practical information and techniques to upgrade and enhance any quality assurance program and quality control lab.

Microscopes and all needed equipment will be provided.  You may bring your own microscope if you wish.   Please e-mail us for additional information.
